Cardiff University is a public university founded in 1883. It is known for its excellent reputation for the quality of its teaching and research. The university was ranked 5th amongst UK universities in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) based on quality. Cardiff is also a member of the Russell Group, a group of 24 leading UK research-intensive universities.
The university offers over 300 undergraduate degrees, and more than 200 taught masters, diplomas and certificates, as well as providing professional short courses. About 6,500 international students from more than 100 countries are enrolled at Cardiff.
